Sydney Harbour Bridge, also affectionately known as "The Coat Hanger", is the world's largest steel through arch bridge across the beautiful Sydney Harbour with the Sydney Opera House nearby. It has become a renowned international icon for both Sydney and Australia.
The construction started in 1924. The Bridge was officially opened on March 19, 1932. Its total length including approach spans is 1,149 meters and its arch span is 503 meters. The top of the arch is 134 meters above sea level and the clearance for shipping under the deck is a spacious 49 meters.
The bridge now carries eight vehicle lanes, two train lines, a walkway and a bicycle lane.
