Spain - Puente Nuevo

Stamp Issue : 1977-06-24

Puente Nuevo, whose name means "new bridge" in Spanish, is the newer and larger of two bridges that span the 120m-deep chasm that divides the city of Ronda in southern Spain. The bridge was built in 1751 and took a total of 42 years to build. The bridge is supposedly one of the most photographed structures in Spain. During the civil war that gripped Spain between 1936 - 1939 the nationalist forces under Franco threw the republicans from the bridge to their deaths in the chasm far below at the bottom of the El Tajo canyon.
The older, smaller bridge is the Puente Viejo which now carries only pedestrians.

Spain - Alcantara Bridge

Stamp Issue : 1991-12-16

Alcantara Bridge was first constructed in 866 AD, close to the ruins of a Roman Bridge. The Arab bridge was in turn washed away, except for the piers and abutments, in 1257 and reconstructed by Alfonso X. There were further restorations in the 15th and 16th Centuries. The masonry of the bridge contains stones of Roman, Visagothic and Arab origin, as do the nearby walls. The massive tower guarding the West end of the bridge is Mudejar work. The gate beyond was undoubtedly one of the oldest entries to the city, for the Roman Toletum, and subsequently the Visigothic Palace of Galiana and the Arab Medina crowned the slope behind it.

Spain - Barqueta Bridge

Stamp Issue : 1992-08-10

Barqueta Bridge was designed entirely with steel. It is approximately 185 yards long with no intermediate supports, with a total width roadbed of approximately 23 yards. The bridge is innovative in design, with its central arch soaring over the completely obstacle-free roadbed. The arch, instead of resting on the center or the edges of the roadbed, is supported on two triangular frames, adding a three-dimensional aspect to the bridge. In the distant background resembling a ship with a blue smoke stack is the pavilion of Andalusia, Spain.

Spain - Rande Bridge

Stamp Issue : 1981-11-26

Rande Bridge (Puente de Rande) is a cable-stayed bridge built in 1978 that links the strips of land of the Strait of Rande on the ria of Vigo. It has a length of 1,558 metres, its pillars have a height of 148 metres and its main span measures 401 metres. Although it was not the biggest (cable-stayed) span in the world when it opened, it was the longest span with more than two lanes.
The bridge, which links Redondela and Moaña through the Strait of Rande, is one of the world's longest bridges. It is currently the longest in Spain and it is an emblematic piece of engineering in the ria of Vigo.
