Queen Emma Bridge is a pontoon bridge across St. Anna Bay in the Netherlands Antilles. Completed in 1939. It connects the Punda and Otrobanda quarters of the capital city, Willemstad. The bridge is hinged and opens regularly to enable the passage of ocean going vessels. When ships are going in or out the bridge has to be sailed away by rotating around a turning point at the Otrobanda side. Pontoon bridges are floating bridges supported by barge-or-boat-like pontoons to support the bridge deck and its dynamic loads. While pontoon bridges are usually temporary structures, some are used for long periods of time.
