Saint-Benezet Bridge or d'Avignon Bridge (Pont Saint-Bénezet, or Pont d'Avignon), is a famous medieval bridge spanning the Rhône River near the town of Avignon, in southern France. The bridge was built between 1171 and 1185, with an original length of about 900 meters, but it suffered frequent collapses during floods and was reconstructed several times. Eventually, after a catastrophic flood in 1668, the bridge was abandoned and no further repair was attempted. Today only four of the initial 22 arches remain intact. The bridge has achieved worldwide fame through the song "Sur le pont d'Avignon" ("On the bridge of Avignon").
