France - Pont de l'Archevêché

Stamp Issue : 1947-01-06

Archbishop's Bridge (Pont de l'Archevêché) is a 3-arch stone bridge crossing the Seine River by the side of Cathédrale Notre Dame in Paris, France.
The bridge links the 4th Arrondissement, at the Île de la Cité, to the 5th Arrondissement, between the quai de Montebello and the quai de la Tournelle. Built in 1828, it is the narrowest bridge in Paris. It is 68 meters long, 17 meters wide and 11 meters high. Its 3 arches have low clearances, which do cause an impediment to river traffic. However, in spite of a municipal decision in 1910 to rebuild it, the bridge was never replaced.
