The stone bridge spans Vauban Lake by Le Quesnoy in the Nord department in northern France. It gives access to the “Porte Fauroeulx”, the main entrance to the fortification. Le Quesnoy is a walled city, and was a German strongpoint during World War I. Late in the conflict the town was assaulted and seized by forces from the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, an event that is commemorated to this day.
